The introduction of Forced circulation evaporator and crystallizer

In a forced circulation evaporator, liquor is pumped through tubes at a velocity of 1-3 m/s and is heated 1-5°C.  Crystals and fouling material in the liquor behave as they would in a pipe of the same diameter with the same velocity.  The small amount of heating has some negative effect but not much.  If liquor can be pumped through a pipe, it can be pumped through a forced circulation evaporator.  Recirculation pumps for forced circulation are much larger than for falling film but the head can be very low, especially for salt crystallizers. Since pipes can plug or foul with a slurry, so can a forced circulation evaporator. However, there will be less fouling than with falling film.

When combining with falling film, as much pre-concentration as practical is done in falling film, and then forced circulation is used for the high concentration stages.  This reduces operating and investment cost.
